Thanksgiving Exercise for Our Kids.... And Us!
Aubin and I are trying to make the holiday season a little more Bible focused every year. So I thought I would share what we are doing with the older kids this week of Thanksgiving.
We started yesterday as a family trying to memorize:
Philippians 2:14 "Do all things without murmurings or disputes"
and
1 Thessalonians 5:18 "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God through Christ Jesus concerning you."
We explained the meaning of these verses to the kids and then told them that anytime that we hear grumbling or complaining that we were going to make them recite Philippians 2:14 with regard to what they shouldn't do and then ask them to recite 1 Thessalonians 5:18 with regard to what they should do.
Then the last step was the hardest but we actually told them that this was not just for the children but also for Mommy and Daddy. So we told them that they could kindly and respectfully hold us accountable to the same passages.
It's a simple exercise but it really does reveal how often the children and unfortunately, we the parents either murmur or do not show thanks either with words or attitudes or even facial expressions.
I hope that all of my friends and readers of this blog will have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
